Yoga is commonly known as a generic term for a physical, mental, and spiritual discipline originating in ancient India. The aim of yoga is varied and range from improving health to achieving moksha.
Every year we organize a six week certificate course yoga classes for the staff and students where yogasanas, pranayama and meditation are taught.
2012 – ’13: Department of Physical Education conducted a certificate course in Yoga in the campus during February 2013. A total of 30 students utilized the opportunity and completed the course.
2014 –’15: Department of Physical Education conducted 10 days yoga training in the college from 5th – 16th May 2015. 35 students from various departments enrolled in the classes. Smt. Ramya, from shivananda International School of Yoga handled the sessions.
2015 – ’16: Department of Physical Education conducted 7 days yoga training during the month of June. The classes kick started on 15th June 2015. The main aim behind this training was to ensure the institution’s participation in the 1st International Yoga Day celebration. A total of 25 students took part in this venture. Ms. Helency G, HOD, Physical Education handled the classes. The classes came to an end on 21st June 2015 by participating in the International Yoga Day Celebration. These 25 students along with Ms. Helency G(HOD, Physical Education) took part in the International Yoga Day Celebration which was organized by 11 Kerala Battalion, NCC, Alappuzhaheld at Alappuzha Beach on 21stJune 2015.
2016 – ’17
In the academic year 2016 – ’17,Department of Physical Education began the Yoga training on7th June 2016 and completed the training on 21st June 2016.The classes were conducted by Ms.Helency G, HOD, Physical Education and a total of 65 students from various departments took part in the programme. On 21st June 2016, the department arranged a yoga demonstration session for the whole college including the staff and the students and marked the college’s participation in the 2nd International Yoga Day celebration.
Department of Physical Education kick started it’s yoga classes on10th June 2017 for the academic year 2017– ’18 and completed on 21stJune 2017. The aim of the programme was to improve the student’s flexibility, muscle strength and tone, Improve respiration, energy and vitality, protection from injury & Cardio and circulatory health. A total of 65 students joined the class and completed the programme. 0n 21st June, the students under the guidance of the department head, participated in the International yoga day celebration.
Department also conducted 2 week separate yoga programme for the staff. A total of 16 teaching staff utilized the classes.
